Concepts of Magick - (Found July 2, 2008 )

by Bandraoi One of the greatest misunderstood practices in the world is the practice of magick or ritual ceremony. While most feel this is something that is a part of occult or supernatural practices, it is something that is utilized on a daily basis whether we realize it or not. Part of the problem is how people define magick (which is spelled with a k in some circles to set it apart from stage magic or prestidigitation). They think of it as something dark or sinister, something that has bad..

A Troubling Legal Precedent in Texas - (Found July 2, 2008 )

by Jason Pitzl-Waters Twelve years ago a 17 year-old girl in a Pentecostal church was restrained for several hours on two different occasions for the purposes of exorcism. She experienced rope-burns, carpet burns, and bruises. Feeling emotionally traumatized by this involuntary action, the girl was eventually diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder, and her parents sued the church for damages and won. However, the Texas Supreme Court has now reversed that decision, saying that the...

The Tree of Life - (Found July 2, 2008 )

by Jennifer Emick The Tree of Life is an important symbol in nearly every culture. With its branches reaching into the sky, and roots deep in the earth, it dwells in three worlds- a link between heaven, the earth, and the underworld, uniting above and below. It is both a feminine symbol, bearing sustenance, and a masculine, visibly phallic symbol- another union. In Jewish and Christian mythology, a tree sits at the center of both the Heavenly and Earthly Edens. The Norse cosmic World Ash,...

Runes and Asatru Religion - (Found July 2, 2008 )

Asatru is the original pre-Christian religion of the Northern European Peoples. Asatru was followed by the Danes, Norwegians, Swedes, Germans, English and Dutch. Some Irish, Scotts and Welsh also. Asatru expresses the religious heritage of the peoples of Northern European descent as a whole. The 9 Runic Virtues of Asatru (below) pretty much sum up what the Asatru religion is all about. Our ancestors believed in a number of gods and goddesses. The 24 rune futhork is the one most commonly used..

What to Do About Stonehenge - (Found July 2, 2008 )

by Jason Pitzl-Waters Though the Summer Solstice revelers have moved on, that most famous of British neolithic monuments, Stonehenge, remains in the news. First off, somewhat controversial Druid leader King Arthur Pendragon (no, not that Arthur Pendragon) is camping out near Stonehenge, and vows to continue to do so until long-promised improvements to the site are made. However, this outrage over the condition of Stonehenge isn't isolated to Druids and Pagans, and with the Olympics coming to...

Pagan Chieftain Criticizes Gay Marriage Law - (Found July 2, 2008 )

Jrmundur Ingi Hansen, former high chieftain of satrarflagid (a religious organization for those who believe in the pagan IcelandicNordic gods), has criticized the new laws on religious associations being able to confirm cohabitation between individuals of the same sex for being too vague and not really including marital rights. The laws on confirmed cohabitation are mostly an optical illusion, Hansen told Frttabladid. They neither give gay people nor straight people any rights to my best...

Gardens Foster an Ethic of the Land - (Found July 2, 2008 )

by Clea Danaan How can we create a sustainable world Are we doomed to extinction, or is there hope I believe we can craft a new world, one garden at a time. Urban community gardens like DeLaney Farm bring together diverse people growing their own food or supporting local farmers while cultivating better lives and stronger communities. In a community garden, language is not important. Ones agricultural or educational background is not important. Religious and political conflicts give way to an.

Elder Well in my day. . . . - (Found July 2, 2008 )

Ok time for this rant: Elders in the Neopagan community. Once upon a time, to be an elder, one had to have earned the position. You know, taught for years, not just owned a store, run a pub moot, held a few rituals etc. No an Elder sweated blood for the community earned respect, oh and the community wanted the bugger! Not so today it seems. Apparently one can claim to have been a pagan since they were 16 (possibly VERY true) but only started a coven in 20045 gotten their magickal name...

Canada Day: How Canada stole the American Dream - (Found July 2, 2008 )

by DUNCAN HOOD To be an American is to be the best. Every American believes this. Their sports champions are not U.S. champions, they're world champions. Their corporations aren't the largest in the States, they're the largest on the planet. Their armies don't defend just America, they defend freedom. Like the perpetual little brother, Canadians have always lived in the shadow of our American neighbours. We mock them for their uncultured ways, their brash talk and their insularity, but it's...
