Realtek RTL8111C Controller Compatibility - July 8, 2008

Hey guys, I've already posted this on a couple of "Linux only" forums but nobody seems to know the answer, so figured it might not hurt to look for any potential help here, too. I have a new motherboard due to arrive in a few days and am trying to determine in advance if I'll need to download and compile the r8168 driver from the Realtek website in order to have a working network connection, or if the r8169 driver included with the Linux kernel by default will now work with the RTL8111C LAN...

SATA II Raid recommendation - July 7, 2008

Can anyone here give me some recommendations on hardware SATA II RAID controllers with 8 internal ports I have been looking around but cannot find anything really highly rated for under a $300 price tag. Probably going to look at running CentOS. I am building a new server that will have about 4 virtual machines on it. Looking at RAID 10 with 4 500GB hard drives for the virtual machine disks and two 160GB hard drives in a RAID 1 for the operating system itself. Edit: Should also note I am...

Pre Configured Distro that Acts as WAP - July 7, 2008

Does anyone know if there is a pre configured distro out there that installs and lets me run a linux based wireless access point I have an old computer and pci wifi card and have heard that you can build a WAP from it. Most of what I've found seems like a lot of time to compile and put together and was wondering if there is a pre-configured distro that does this. Trying sshfs to Router with OpenWrt - July 7, 2008

Desktop is Ubuntu Hardy. Router is WRT54G v4 running OpenWrt Whiterussian 0.9 I get the impression sshfs can run to any box via a regular ssh session except it mounts as a filesystem. But I'm finding the router absolutely has to have sftp-server installed. Any ideas why I'd rather have the space. :-) Otherwise, I'm able to mount the router just fine from commandline: sudo sshfs root(router-ip): (mount-point) -o allow_other

I find that program very useful to get my job done fast things. Windows versions doesn't have like that. -- 64K TCP WIN is officially dead for long high latency fat network connection across internet.
