Expanding the repertoire - August 12, 2008

The Cleveland Orchestra heads to Europe this week for a competition that may not quite equal the Olympics, but comes close in the fiercely competitive world of classical music. The executive director says the orchestra is committed to a distance run " in northeast Ohio and worldwide. WKSU's M.L. Schultze reports.

85-year-old gold medalist sprinter and hurdler heads to Beijing - August 12, 2008

Tomorrow, an Olympic gold medalist from Cleveland leaves for Beijing. Harrison Dillard is a little too old to sprint and jump hurdles. He's 85. But the memories of his triumphs in Helsinki in 1952 and in London in 1948 are still vivid. He spoke with us about his upcoming trip: WKSU's Vivian Goodman reports.

Cleveland Councilwoman Fannie Lewis has died - August 11, 2008

A Cleveland political icon has died. Long-time City Councilwoman Fannie Lewis passed away this morning after a long illness. She was 82. For nearly 3 decades, Lewis served as councilwoman for Cleveland's Hough neighborhood. Over the years, she gained a reputation as a tireless fighter for her ward, and someone who wasn't afraid to tell mayors and business leaders what she thought. WKSU's Kevin Niedermier reports.
