The full-frame shooter updates the original 5D introduced back in 2005 with a 24 x 36mm 21.1 megapixel CMOS sensor, DIGIC 4 processor with 14-bit analog-to-digital conversion, and the ability to capture Full HD 1,920 x 1,080 video -- take that Nikon D90 and your paltry 720p. AOC introduces 17-inch V17 LCD monitor: 12-millimeters thin - September 17, 2008

Filed under: Displays AOC already dished out a number of HD LCD monitors for those with a few extra bucks to spare, but the 17-inch V17 keeps things relatively cheap ($199.99) and exceptionally thin. More specifically, the monitor checks in at just 12-millimeters deep -- it's no XEL-1, sure, but that's pretty frickin' slim. Furthermore, it includes a built-in VGA webcam, glass base and integrated speakers to boot. We're still waiting to hear back on the screen resolution, but considering that...

Zivio Boom hands (and ears) on - September 17, 2008

Filed under: Cellphones, Peripherals At first glance, the Zivio Boom seems like a novel approach to the Bluetooth headset problem, but as we experienced, it's actually a little less pleasure and a touch more pain. The design and packaging of the product are highly stylized and sufficiently handsome to be sure, but once you get down to the meat, this peripheral leaves quite a bit to be desired. In our tests, not only was the sound quality of the earpiece far below the standards you'd expect from.

Ins and Outs: Whatever happened to iTV - September 17, 2008

Filed under: HDTV, Home Entertainment, Household Jeremy Toeman contributes Ins and Outs, an opinion column on entertainment technology. He is also the founder and editor of LIVEdigitally. As a sophomore in college I wrote a presentation on "the next generation home" wherein I discussed topics I had researched, ranging from "the information superhighway" (this was 1992, before Mosaic was even in beta) to home automation to interactive television. The thinking was we'd have amazing,...

GameChanger's Audio Bone headphones, ideal for mud wrestlers and mermaids - September 17, 2008

Filed under: Portable Audio Unlike a lot of the other Frankenstein-esque bone conducting headphones we've seen, the Audio Bone 1.0 headphones from GameChanger are a tad more discreet. Your $189 won't buy you an onboard MP3 player like the SwiMP3, however, so don't come crying to us when your not-so-waterproof media player electrocutes you and everyone else hanging out in the kiddie pool.Via ubergizmoRead  Permalink  Email this  Comments

Samsung makes a hostile bid for SanDisk - September 16, 2008

Filed under: Storage We'd heard rumors Samsung was wooing SanDisk, but it looks like the four-month courtship is over -- Samsung just announced that in reponse to SanDisk's "unrealistic expectations" during negotiations, it's going hostile and will offer $26share for the company. That's bound to cause some waves in the storage industry, especially since Toshiba and Seagate were also rumored to be interested in SanDisk. We'll see what happens -- things always get a little crazy when there's...

Ruby Cipher HDD kit provides AES 256-bit hardware encryption - September 16, 2008

Filed under: Storage Addonics is good for providing über-secure storage options, and this one does a fine job of keeping that legacy alive. The Ruby Cipher hard drive kit shows lots of love to any 2.5-inch SATA drive that you've got laying around, and once you slip it in there, you can rest assured that only you (and maybe your ghost) will see what files are within. The enclosure itself comes with inbuilt eSATA SATA connectors, and there's also a SATA direct bridge to "isolate the SATA...

Sony issues firmware update for Alpha A700 DSLR - September 16, 2008

Filed under: Digital Cameras Sony's Alpha A700 has been pleasing (or displeasing, we suppose), users for just over a year now, but those that have stuck with it in spite of a few issues can now smile brightly. Sony has just unleashed a firmware update for the DSLR which reportedly adds in an option to select auto exposure bracketing (single and continuous) with 3 shots in 2 EV steps and gives the choice to nix the High ISO NR feature. Furthermore, it supposedly improves the image quality in a...
