Here's a press release I just received from the Orioles...
ORIOLES RELEASE JAY GIBBONS
Team announces 2008 Opening Day roster
The Orioles today announced that they have released OF JAY GIBBONS. Selected from the Toronto Blue Jays in the Rule 5 Draft on December 11, 2000, Gibbons hit .260 with 121 home runs and 405 RBI in 779 games over seven seasons for the Orioles.
Gibbons hit .230 with 6 home runs and 28 RBI in 84 games last season before undergoing surgery on his left shoulder on August 14...

Okay, look, it's no secret that the Orioles aren't going to the playoffs this year... or next... or probably even the year after that.
But it doesn't mean that this won't be one of the more exciting seasons in recent memories.
You have the beginning of a real "youth movement" and an opportunity to see Orioles stars of tomorrow along with talented stars of today like Nick Markakis and Brian Roberts... at least for now.
I still think Roberts will be gone at some point. MacPhail will wait it.

The phrase "Orioles Magic" is as much a part of Baltimore's cultural lexicon as "hon" or "goin' down de ocean".
or think of 1989 and the phrase "Why Not"
1991 was called "A Season to Remember".
There's been "Come to Birdland", "These Kids Come to Play" and, in 1994, "Be Part of the Dream."
Now, as we look forward to opening day in '08 and a team of mostly young kids trying to prove that they belong in the Big Leagues, it's time to think about a slogan for the season.

Having just read the title of this blog entry, I'd imagine some of you are contemplating suicide right now. Hopefully, the majority of WNST listeners are as happy as Ryan Seacrest at a day spa about the Fighting Ungers doing 6-8 pm weekdays.
Regardless, beginning March 31st (Orioles Opening Day) it happens and I'm excited about the opportunity to discuss sports, my affinity for clown erotica, and anything else that crops up with you six days a week. We'll continue to do our Saturday morning...

I'm writing this from the Sheraton Hotel in Hartford, Connecticut. I'm performing this weekend at a comedy club nearby. One of my favorite authors,SamuelClemens (aka Mark Twain) lived in Hartford with his family for many years and the home in which he wrote several of his novels and many short stories, is just a couple of miles away.
I've visited the home before and highly recommend the trip to anyone with an interest in America's most revered writer. His humor, his pathos, his sense of craft..

To the pleasure of some of you, I haven't blogged in some time. Not sure why. Been busy I guess. Spent some time performing in San Antonio and had a great time. If you've not been, I highly recommend the trip. The people are friendly, the food is great and, hell, you got THE ALAMO!
I have to say that the Alamo may be one of the more overrated national treasures. Well, first of all, it's not even a national treasure because Texas wasn't part of the United States when Jim Bowie, Davey Crockett...
