WASHINGTON - Jun 2708 - SNS -- The June Index of Prices Paid for Commodities and Services, Interest, Taxes, and Farm Wage Rates (PPITW) is 189% of the 1990-92 average, judging from the current USDA report on the sector.

CWB Contract Call Updates - (Found July 2, 2008 )

WINNIPEG - Apr 3008 - SNS -- The Canadian Wheat Board (CWB) announced contract calls for Canada Western Red Spring wheat (CARS) for the 2007-08 crop year. Specific calls are identified below. Effective April 30, 2008, these delivery calls apply to grain in straight, tough or damp condition. With todays calls, 100% of Series A and B Nos. 1 and 2 CARS in regions 1,2,3,4,5 and 6 have been called for delivery.

USDA Sets Interest Rates - (Found July 2, 2008 )

WASHINGTON - May 108 - SNS -- The USDA's Commodity Credit Corporation (CCC) today announced interest rates for May 2008. The CCC borrowing rate-based charge is 1.625%, unchanged from April 2008. For 1996 and subsequent crop year commodity and marketing assistance loans, the interest rate for loans disbursed during May 2008 is 2.625%, unchanged from April 2008.

New Chickpea Fungicide for Canada - (Found July 2, 2008 )

SASKATOON - May 1408 - SNS -- BASF Canada is introducing a new formulation of HEADLINE EUO fungicide for western Canadian chickpea growers in Western Canada. The chemical helps fight ascochyta in chickpeas by combining pyraclostrobin and boscalid.

WASHINGTON - May 3008 - SNS -- The preliminary All Farm Products Index of Prices Received by Farmers in May, at 150%, based on 1990-92=100, increased 5 points (3.4%) from April, according to this USDA report on the sector.

Pea-Wheat Rotation Explained - (Found July 2, 2008 )

EDMONTON - Jun 208 - SNS -- Having only pea and wheat crops in a rotation is not a true crop rotation, note Alberta Agriculture agronomists. Ideally, having three or more crops in a rotation is best from a crop diversity standpoint and is preferred tohelp manage pest issues, particularly disease. However, a short two-year pea-wheat rotation does offer a number of advantages in the drier regions of southern Alberta.

Fall Seeded Legumes Look Good in U.S. - (Found July 2, 2008 )

BOZEMAN - Jun 208 - PRN -- Projected budgets show a potential for increased profit using fall-seeded peas and lentils for spring grazing and as a nitrogen source for a subsequent wheat crop, say researchers with the Montana Agricultural Experiment Station and Montana State University Extension Service.
