UsababbleUsability, Design, and the Rambling Man.Dealing with layouts- June 24, 2004 There's good article on elastic layouts for web sites over at Design by Fire. I'm inspired... if it wasn't such a pain in my eye to mess with the templates and what not here I'd probably go and fix up this blog spot to use the elastic approach... and since I know I already break on IE there not much for me to loose. A lot of this looks like what we try to do with the GridBagLayout in Java. Finding the balance between presenting an intentionally designed experience and one that allows for...http://blogs.sun.com/usababble/entry/dealing_with_layouts That took forever- June 17, 2004 Now things are up and looking as they should in all browsers that I care to test. Basically a bunch of stuff based on mozilla so if you use ie or opera or something else entirely I have no idea if things will work. Actually, I have a very good idea that in ie this particular blog looks like warm steamy poo that's just been stepped in. Trying very hard to get this blog thing customized to something that I want. I've got the overall format together, the css and what I believe to be correctly formed Weblog and _day templates -mostly just copy and paste stuff from using the sotto theme (as good as the next i guess). Well, one would think that's enough. Apparently there's an error with something. No idea what, just an in-descriptive jsp error. Great. Figures And another nit. The docs for Roller talk about how one can...http://blogs.sun.com/usababble/entry/a_word_about_one_size Here we be.- June 15, 2004 This is a test for my own gratification so I can muck around with the templates to figure out what i really want to do with the layout. Soon enough there will be real content to fill this space and I'll chat about usability and design and developer tools and the culture of it all and probably a few things to enrage, incense and mystify all you readers out there. Stay tuned.http://blogs.sun.com/usababble/entry/here_we_be |
