Simon St.Laurent has announced an IETF Internet-Draft defining a XPath based scheme to be used in the XPointer framework that is simpler than the xpointer() scheme and more powerful than the shorthand or element() scheme.

The W3C and IETF have published XML-Signature XPath Filter 2.0, which offers "a new XML Signature transform to facilitate the development of efficient document subsetting technologies that interoperate under similar performance profiles."

The W3CIETF URI Planning Interest Group has published URIs, URLs, and URNs: Clarifications and Recommendations 1.0 as a Note, while Tim Berners-Lee suggested that "Content-Types should be defined by URIs".
