The Compleat Iconoclast

Heresy as a Hobby....

Bloggus Interupptus - February 16, 2004

Starting around midnight tonight, that is, Monday nightTuesday morning, I'm gonna be offline for at least a week, as I'm in the midst of a move. Might be two weeks before I'm back on much. I imagine that I won't be posting much, and checking email only sporadically from such public net access points as will be handy. Seeya later.

If you love me... - February 12, 2004

Hell, even if you just like me, or even just don't hate me the way Al Franken hates GWB, hie your ass over to the Forbes magazine poll, and vote for my freind SeaJay, aka Catherine Jamieson, who has been nominated for Best PhotoBlog. You don't even have to look at the other contenders, I already did that for you. Trust me, SeaJays busts their ass, beats 'em like a red-headed stepchild. :-) Go and vote here.

Seeya, General... - February 11, 2004

...wouldn't wanna beeya. Looks like Clark is down for the count. Wonder if the remaining contenders will be burning up the phone lines begging for Moore's endorsement Prolly not, I suspect. If I were Kerry or Edwards, I'd have snipers on watch with orders to take Moore down before he got within an acre of me. Not kill him, of course. Just hit him with whatever the normal trank load is for subduing a large mammal. A hippo load would work, I think.

Don't Even TRY it! - February 11, 2004

Don't even try your lying shit with me. I am SnakeOil proof. I got 18 of 20 correct. But since you can't see me right now, how do you know if I'm lying Well, you could ping me, and I'll tell you over my webcam. :-) As an aside, as I was taking the test, I could not help but think there are some damn ugly people in England, if the people depicted in the quiz are a representative lot.

Mentiroso... - February 10, 2004

...in Spanish, means a liar. We see them every day. A good liar can use body language to help sell the lie. But a perceptive person, an investigator, a therapist, a poker player, can see through the mendacious signals the liar uses to try and sell the lie. But while the lips can lie, the body always tells the truth. Facial expressions, unconscious nods and shakes of the head, even eyeblinks make sure that "the Truth will out." First among the signals we use to convey emotion is the smile...

Philosophical Bents - February 5, 2004

I saw this survey somewhere, forget eggzackly, (update: was over at emdot's) and decided to take a swing at it, just to see where I fell amongst the various schools of philosophical thought. Amazingly enough, I don't know all that much about Rand. Read The Fountainhead as a teen, and liked it well enough to include it in my list of all-time favorites, but that's it. On the other hand, was not at all surprised to see Plato near the bottom of the list, and Augustine at the very bottom. I...

Places I've Never Been - February 3, 2004

One thing I've always wanted to do in life is to visit all fifty states. Current score is 38 down, 12 to go. Plus I've been to D.C, and Puerto Rico. create your own visited states map Oddly enough, I don't think of myself as a particularly travelled person. I suspect most US citizens my age have travelled as much. I think that we forget, or at least fail to appreciate, what an age of wonders we live in.

Nippleodeon - February 2, 2004

Just in case you missed it, here's a closeup (hat tip - Drudge) of Janet Jackson's titty decoration, which most media are reporting as be a "pasty." Yeahright. The media hasn't a clue. As my podjo hoo would say... "If that's a pasty, then my ass is a banjo."
