Sixteen-year-olds given the keys to donate blood - July 18, 2008

Turning 16 is a milestone for any teenager. Sweet 16 parties, driver's licenses, keys to the car, and as of July 1, 2008, 16-year-olds in Minnesota have the opportunity to donate blood with the American Red Cross with a signed Red Cross parentalguardian consent form dated no sooner than July 1.Spring Grove 16-year-olds and others will have the opportunity to give blood on Thursday, July 17, from 1 to 7 p.m. at the Fest Building, 110 N. Highway 76 detour begins Monday - July 14, 2008

A construction project on Highway 76, from the Iowa border to the south junction of Highway 44, will begin Monday, July 14, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.An open house about construction staging and detours for the project has been set for Wednesday, July 9, from 6 to 7 p.m., at the Eitzen Community Center, 207 E. County still waiting for federal disaster declaration - July 12, 2008

"FEMA's preliminary damage assessment for the county and township infrastructure is $7,053,000," emergency manager Kurt Kuhlers told the Houston County Board at its regular meeting on June 17.County and state officials estimate another $15 million in crop and land damage.
