Campus thinks green - July 21, 2008

Schools everywhere are looking for ways to make better use of energy and become "green campuses," and Chaffey College is no different. The college is exploring a number of ways to reduce energy consumption on campus in an effort to make Chaffey a more environmentally friendly school.

Textbook price wars - July 21, 2008

There's a new bookstore vying for student dollars at Chaffey College this summer. The bookstore, called Off Campus Textbook, is located at the Chaffey Plaza at the corner of Haven and Lemon avenues. It is run by a Whittier-based privately held corporation that has targeted colleges in the Los Angeles region over the past 15 years, according to Meena Amin, manager of Off Campus.

Staff editorial: - July 21, 2008

Let's face it. Although textbooks have been a valued resource for students and in the classroom, they have also been the hallmark of financial burden for most college students here at Chaffey. For a full time student, they would have to spend hundreds of dollars on the books they sorely need to succeed in class.

Chino is the new Rancho - July 21, 2008

The Chino campus of Chaffey College has big plans to possibly rival the Rancho Cucamonga campus as the main hub of academic life. The Chino campus, located near the 71 and 91 freeways, is also getting an added boost from the city of Chino, which wants to make the idyllic campus the center of a master community of homes and parks in the area.

Lil' Swimmers - July 21, 2008

School is out, and parents who were clamoring for wholesome, positive activities for their children have found that the Chaffey summer sessions are the way to go. Every year, Chaffey College hosts an array of summer sports camps that are not only fun, but also build character while providing the mentorship necessary for athletic achievement.

Arnold terminates education budget - July 21, 2008

Arnold Schwarzenegger is back as the Terminator once more. It's not in a feature film this time but as the trigger of impending budget cuts in California education. His proposed budget is expected to hit education hard with a 10 percent reduction in funds.

Campus center west to be put to rest - July 21, 2008

A number of important student services, most notably the student health center and the EOPS program, will soon be located in a new two-story Campus Center West. Most students at the Rancho Cucamonga campus of Chaffey College are familiar with the Campus Center West building.

Are you looking for a free ride - July 21, 2008

With gas prices on the rise, Chaffey is exploring ways to help students get to class on a budget - including year-round bus service, free of charge. The idea is certainly ambitious, but negotiations with the San Bernardino-based bus provider Omnitrans are already underway.

Amavizca-Murua uses art to combat 'femicide' - July 21, 2008

Director and writer Ruben Amavizca-Murua is a native of the industrial town of Mexicali, Baja California. His mother was a seamstress who worked at one of the first maquiladoras in Mexicali decades ago. So it was no wonder when Amavizca-Murua stumbled across the news of a mass "femicide" occurring to Mexican maquiladora females along the border, it struck an emotional chord within him.

Here's Huey: makeover at Chino Airport - July 21, 2008

Chaffey's military helicopter is missing in action. Back in the mid-1990s, the National Guard unit in Rancho Cucamonga had four helicopters to donate. What better timing than having an adjunct aeronautics instructor from the National Guard take one of the flyable "Huey" birds off the hands of the local military unit.
