Technology & Life Integration: Fiction or FutureA peek into the mind of Locutus as he explores the realms of possibilities that computers and related technology bring. What will technology do for us and is it good or bad?Has the Apple lost its freshness- August 29, 2008 The iconic face of Apple lives on despite a certain bungle saying otherwise as mentioned here. Yet this article got me thinking. Before you get too shocked I must mention that I do think sometimes, although it does hurt the old and dried up brain cells. This time I started thinking not just about Mr. Jobs but about Apple in general, more specifically their image and products. (I just had a tasteless joke pop into my mind about Jobshttp://networking.ittoolbox.com/r/rss.asp?url=http://it.toolbox.com/blogs/locutus/has-the-... I want more than bipolar computing.- August 28, 2008 Computers of today are too limited. In only being able to count by one even the simplest of equations involving large numbers is cumbersome. Storage of those numbers is inefficient and translation of bases from 2 to n a requirement. If we want to take computers to the next level we need to break out of the bipolar mode. The ideas for doing it have been around for as long as I have been alive (and longer) but it hasn't been implemented in any practical manner. For the simple reason is that elehttp://networking.ittoolbox.com/r/rss.asp?url=http://it.toolbox.com/blogs/locutus/i-want-m... Like to chat Then jabber is no jabberwocky!- August 27, 2008 "Beware the Jabberwock, my son! The jaws that bite, the claws that catch! Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun The frumious Bandersnatch!" Although the beast in this poetic snatch sounds quite fearsome the jabber server I am going to jabber on about is not. But what is jabber Jabber is a free and open implementation of a chat protocol. It does the exact same job as msn, irc, icq and many others. The only difference is you can dig into the guts of it and find out what makes it tick so yohttp://networking.ittoolbox.com/r/rss.asp?url=http://it.toolbox.com/blogs/locutus/like-to-... Will computers ever be smarter than us- August 25, 2008 After coming back from my holiday and trawling through a huge backlog of news, emails and other correspondence (generally with windows in the envelopes). I came across an article where Intel innovators claim that one day computers will be smarter than us mere mortals. The article I read is here if you wish to read it. This brought up some interesting thoughts from the murky depths of my mind and I started wondering. Could computershttp://networking.ittoolbox.com/r/rss.asp?url=http://it.toolbox.com/blogs/locutus/will-com... People, please take your blinkers off.- August 8, 2008 This is sort of a semi rant, a bit of pleading and an appeal to what is called intelligence. What I am referring to is the way that everybody judges something new based on pre-conceptions and bias due to previous experience. What really gets my goat is when people compare one program and focus not on what the program can do but on how it doesn't do things in the same way as another program. OK, you are probably thinking that I am going off on another fanboiz trip. Maybe I am and maybe I aren'http://networking.ittoolbox.com/r/rss.asp?url=http://it.toolbox.com/blogs/locutus/people-p... |
