Outlooks Not Good for Acadia. Or GMC. - June 30, 2008

When GM announced the Traverse, they insisted the new Chevy was different enough from the GM&39;s three Lambda-platformed CUVs that it wouldn&39;t cannibalize sales. It looks like they were right; there won&39;t be anything left to cannibalize. GMINsidenews is reporting that neither the GMC Acadia (the best-selling Lambda flavor) nor the Saturn Outlook (the worst selling) will make the cut. That&39;ll leave only the Buick Enclave and the Traverse to carry the Lambda Gen 2 banner. GM&39;s..

Audi Supercharged V6 Officially Official - June 27, 2008

Much like BMW, Audi is taking the forced induction route for upping horsepower of its V6 engines-- rather than just increasing displacement, a la Mercedes or Nissan. Audi officially announced the specs on its anticipated 3.0-liter V6 TFSI engine (the T must be silent, or refers to totally supercharged, not turbo). The new powerplant will pump-out 290 horsepower and 310 lb ft of torque. On paper, it&39;s nearasdammit the same as BMW&39;s 300 hp300 lb ft turbocharged 3.0-liter I6 engine. The...

Volt Birth Watch 59: Stretched Thin - June 26, 2008

The Atlantic boasts a lengthy article on the Chevy Volt containing some pretty eye-opening revelations from author Jonathan Rauch. &34;And how, I ask Volt chief engineer Andrew Farah over coffee early one February morning in Detroit, is it going... The car, he says, is 10 weeks behind the original schedule. Any more slippage, and the 2010 deadline will be history. Even if no more time is lost, he will have only eight weeks to test the underbody, the car&39;s structural base. Is that enough...

FIAT Returns to U.S. Again. Still. Soon. Maybe. Or Not. - June 26, 2008

C&39;mon, let&39;s face reality here. If you were a foreign automaker aspiring to sell your products in the U.S., there are a few facts that should stop you dead in your tracks. 1) North America is the world&39;s most competitive automotive market. There&39;s a reason The Big 2.8 are fighting for their survival and it&39;s not because they&39;re the only kids on the block 2) You couldn&39;t imagine a worse time to be selling cars in the U.S. The new vehicle market is in chaos. And it&39;s about.

The New Ferrari California is Ugly - June 25, 2008

How do I put this delicately The new Ferrari California looks like a Chevrolet Corvette crossed with a BMW Z4 tuned by Brabus. The front end is the best angle, but it&39;s still busier than Sunday morning at a college health clinic. The Fezza&39;s side and back, however, are a goddamn mess. The gills, no doubt an homage to the properly stunning 1957 Ferrari 250 GT California, look completely out of place on this car. The bizarre lines on the side are overdone. The back end is a disaster. Quad...

Volkswagen to Make it Simple Stupid! - June 25, 2008

Parlare con CAR, VW design guru Walt de&39;Silva admits he isn&39;t exactly thrilled about VeeDub&39;s current design direction. Pensare The Jetta looks like a Corolla and the Passat looks like a bar of soap. So VW&8217;s styling will &34;return to simple design language that&8217;s easy to understand - a clear hierarchy of grilles and rear-end treatment.&34; Scribe Adam Towler says &34;Expect the next generation of VWs to have spiritually more in common with the late 1990s range of cars rather.

Euro Focus To Be Built Stateside For 2011 - June 23, 2008

Ford has announced that the current Euro-spec Focus arrive stateside in 2010 as a 2011 model. What&39;s more, it&39;ll be an American-made product, And for once, we don&39;t mean Mexico. Automotive News AN, sub says the current Focus plant in Wayne, MI will likely build the new-to-us small car. If all goes according to plan (i.e. the SUV market never recovers and the United Auto Workers play ball), Ford&39;s Louisville KY factory may also switch over to the new Focus (from EscapeMariner...

Ford Pauses Big V8 Development - June 23, 2008

Automotive News AN, sub reports that Ford is limiting plans for the new line of big block V8 engines, codenamed &34;Boss&34; (after Hurricane Katrina made the name &34;Hurricane&34; politically unwise). The plan was: stick a 6.2-liter Boss engine in the F-Series pickup trucks. Truck delayed. Plan delayed. AN reckons the Mustang&39;s future 5.0-liter V8 is still on the table; Mark Fields is on record saying they plan to make future V8 engines as fuel efficient as possible. The bad news:...

Nissan and Infiniti to Get New Small RWD Coupes - June 20, 2008

For Edmunds, the upshot of writing what RF calls &34;Pimpatorials&34; is that they get to break inside information (although who knows how long they&39;ve been sitting on the news). The Inside Line folks report today that Infiniti is planning a small rear wheel-drive (RWD) coupe. The brand extension will be an entry-level two-seater slotting under the Infiniti G37 coupe. The new car would likely pack a smaller engine (2.5-liter V6). That said, yours truly thinks that&39;ll go out the...

Alfas MiTo Officially Official - June 20, 2008

Images and details of Alfa&39;s compact MiTo are officially official, and so is the press kit. Thanks to this modern marketing marvel we can bring you a gallery of photos as well as some specs on the upcoming car, that&39;s not upcoming to America until someone has an IPO for Swine Airlines. This car is meant to be a B-segment entry for Alfa, so in Europe that means it&39;ll compete head on with the MINI, among others. At launch, only three engines are available (and they are stick shift..
