Remediate Migration of "Partial Migration" VMs - September 15, 2008

It would be nice if a "Maintenance Mode"Remediation would Migrate all systems automatically off a clustered Host. This would make it easier to schedule the Remediation during non-work hours and not having to worry if someone changed a system to "Partial or Manual" Migration. If there is a way to do this now, please let me know. At this point it looks like I have to schedule the migrations after going into Maintenance Mode. Thanks Lyle. Message was edited by: Lyle

VC2.5u2 maintenance mode won't VMotion VMs - September 14, 2008

Please see the following thread for a formerly working feature that got broke in VC2.5u2 http:communities.vmware.commessage1050116 When placing a host in Maintenance Mode, VC no longer VMotions VMs automatically. It has to be done manually. The workaround is to disable HA in the cluster. Note that DRS will still VMotion VMs around in a cluster. It's just the Maintenance Mode function where VMotion isn't working automatically. This is a valuable time saving feature that got broke. Please..

Re: I can run ONE ESX vm but the second won't load the VMkernel - September 11, 2008

I gave the Ubuntu server 2 cpus and 2GB of RAM but it didn't appear to help much. That settings sure are contra-productive. Don't use 2 cpus for the nested VM - assign as little RAM as possible for the nested VMs Also try if you get better performance when assigning only 1 cpu for the ESX itself. Why do you use guestOS = "rhel4-64" What is this good for vcpu.hotadd = "TRUE" maxvcpus = "4" ___________________________________ description of vmx-parameters:...

Support for the Intel 10G Dual Port CX4 Server Adapter. - September 11, 2008

Hello, The current ixgbe driver in Vmware ESX 3i Update 2 supports the Intel 82598EB 10 gigabit cards. However the Dual Port CX4 Copper connector cards are not supported in the shipped driver. The ixgbe driver listed on the vmware websit is currently 1.3.7. This driver supports the Intel 10G XF SR Dual Port Server as listed in the Vmware 3.5 IO guide. This cards has a product code of EXPX9502AFXSR, which is Short Range multimode Fiber connectors. The Intel 10G Dual Port CX4 adapter has CX4..

Re: I can run ONE ESX vm but the second won't load the VMkernel - September 11, 2008

Hello. I got my ESX server to install on Workstation 6.5 beta. My Ubuntu guest running off the ESX server is very slow (20-30 min to load to the login screen). Any sugguestions to speed it up Below is my ESX configuration. I gave the Ubuntu server 2 cpus and 2GB of RAM but it didn't appear to help much. My system is a Windows Vista 64bit, 8GB of RAM, and a Q6600 CPU on a Nvidia Mobo with VT enabled. Thanks for any tips! .encoding = "windows-1252" config.version = "8" virtualHW.version..

Instantaneouslive snapshots with memory option enabled (ESX) - September 10, 2008

I would like to be able to do snapshots with the memory option enabled without having the VM interrupted for the copying of the ram to the disk. I'm thinking of a r2r2d (ram to ram to disk) process - first the actual ram of the VM is copied inside the ram of the ESX server, then that copy is saved to disk. The overall process would not become faster, but it would have less impact on the VM.

VI Client - need to allow us to hide menu and command bars - September 9, 2008

I have found it quite annoying that I can't get the entire window on the screen when I am remote desktop'ing into a system and then running VI Client to manage a box. The upshot is that the menu bar, the command bar, and the bottom status bar take a ton of realestate and I end up having to vertical scroll all the time. Most of the time I am connecting to remote desktop at 1024x768 and then running vi client and I end up with something like 1024 x 700 usable window space... and I've tried to.

Imagebackup of one (or more disks) with vcb wanted. - September 9, 2008

I have a request for a new feature in vcb, and i think there are more of you out there that wants this. I use vcb a lot today, both for file- and image-backups. The problem i have is that I want to be able to make an image backup of an server, but not on all of the disks. We have installed most of our virtual servers with one system drive (c:), one for software installations (d:) and then one or more for application data (i.e., files, documents or databases). I want to be able to take...
