Urban Vancouver - Vancouver's community blogVancouver's community blogTest your PC...- June 30, 2008 Would you like to test your firewall for leaks, or check your broadband speed Then here's where you can do that, and it's free. If you have a firewall, you should be sure it works, and this will tell you. There's another speed test called Speakeasy with several locations including Seattle where you can also test your speed. I like it because Seattle is close, and therefore there aren't a lot of hops in between to slow things down.http://feeds.urbanvancouver.com/~r/uv/~3/323356989/6379 World Poetry Cafe Radio Show Proudly presents Dr Stephan Gill- June 30, 2008 The World Poetry Caf Radio Show proudly presents a special phone interview with Dr. Stephan Gill, July 1st on CFRO 102.7 FM from 9:10 pm to 9:40 pm PST. with your hosts Ariadne Sawyer, MA and Alejandro Mujica-Olea. There are times and places when - and where - one wishes the former would stop and the latter could be taken home. But time surely never stops and those places only follow us home on frozen photographs and wrapped up softly in our memories. It's up to us, then, to match our pace to that of life around us and to make sure the memories live on and generate new...http://feeds.urbanvancouver.com/~r/uv/~3/322336808/6376 Picture of the day...- June 29, 2008 Click here for today's picture. Be sure to download the User's Guide with it, and away you go - enjoy outer space. Here's an example of what you can do - Select a planet in the night sky, like Jupiter for example... It does other things too, so have a look...http://feeds.urbanvancouver.com/~r/uv/~3/321879349/6371 Latest discovery....- June 27, 2008 While checking something else, I found this handy little freeware program which seems to have a lot of fans, and a good reputation. Just an 'FYI' folks.... I used this to clean up my Registry (it can make backups first) and afterward, I used another tried and trusted program called 'EasyCleaner' to again scan the Registry, just to check it, and EasyCleaner found 5 more invalid entries. Those were either missed by the 'Ccleaner' or perhaps caused by something it did while cleaning out other...http://feeds.urbanvancouver.com/~r/uv/~3/321599478/6370 Visualizing global web performance....- June 26, 2008 If you'd like a look at the world wide web on a real-time monitor, then all you need to do is click this link and then click on 'Real-time Web Monitor'. Have fun!http://feeds.urbanvancouver.com/~r/uv/~3/320643747/6367 A word about Adobe's Shockwave Player 11- June 26, 2008 I've just wasted about two hours trying to get Shockwave Player working again, after some 'housecleaning' spoiled the previous version. I discovered that Adobe has changed the list of 'Xtras' for the latest versions, and downloading the latest version 11 will result in error messages saying 'SWADCmpr.x32 not found' or something similar. This is a Sound Wave Audio Decompressor file without which the install is incomplete and the player won't run. The solution is to go onto the Adobe Shockwave...http://feeds.urbanvancouver.com/~r/uv/~3/320258357/6365 Roland's Map- June 26, 2008 Click for larger view.http://feeds.urbanvancouver.com/~r/uv/~3/320135976/6364 My 1 year anniversary of bicycling to work- June 25, 2008 Almost exactly one year ago, I started bicycling to work thanks to VanCity and its Bike Share program. Now I bicycle to work 3-5 times a week rain or shine and am a small 'e' bicycling enthusiast. Really if you are reasonably fit and live and work within in the city of Vancouver there's no reason NOT to cycle to work. More reflections later, but here's my bicycle route that I took today to go to the BEST Pancake Breakfast. View Larger Maphttp://feeds.urbanvancouver.com/~r/uv/~3/319855307/6362 |
