Lackluster exhibit at Kachina - August 11, 2008

The Kachina Lounge and Gallery has had some very interesting recent exhibitions, like Jill Renne-Smith's "Forgotten Girls," which makes the current exhibit "The Last Sin & The Mending Tree" by Ernesto Trujillo comparatively lackluster. Simple prints of black ink splotches resemble Rorschach tests while what looks like wrought-iron squares checker an entire wall.

Reviews - August 11, 2008

It's about time Conor Oberst released a solo album, one might say. Its title is misleading, though, as the tortured Bright Eyes frontman's self-titled release is not a solo project at all. Recorded in Mexico with the five-piece Mystic Valley Band, Conor Oberst is much like a continuation of the last few Bright Eyes albums, with a few unpolished moments - Conor cracking up in "Souled Out!!!", plus some muffled instructions to the band in the introductions.

Arizona sports final exam, summer semester 2008 - August 11, 2008

The end of second summer session means one terrible thing: finals, and therefore lots of studying. While I was sitting in the library trying to get an early start on cramming, my eyes began to glaze over from staring at my scribbled notes on electromagnetism and my mind began to wander.

Competition heats up at fall camp - August 11, 2008

One week into Arizona football's fall camp, the competition for position on the depth chart is just heating up. But Saturday night in the team's first scrimmage, projected starting running back Nic Grigsby may have done his fellow backs a favor. On the opening drive of the night, the sophomore came up swinging after being tackled by cornerback Devin Ross.

When words just aren't enough - August 11, 2008

As the sun sets on another Tucson summer, the beginning of classes on Aug. 25 can be seen just beyond the red and gold haze. The start of the semester will mean a lot of things to different people. Incoming freshmen will excitedly untie those nervous knots left in their collective stomachs, hoping for the best and that college really is made of the things they've hoped and dreamed of.

Summer program gives med students glimpse into rural practice - August 11, 2008

Removing growths from patients, stitching and watching cesarean sections were just some of the experiences had by UA medical students this summer. For students in the UA College of Medicine who participated in the Rural Health Professions Program (RHPP), the summer was a chance to take what they learned in their first year of medical school and see it in action.
