/dev/nullCameron PurdyWorth Reading- September 29, 2007 "So, what have you read lately" I get that question a lot. It's kind of like asking, "So, how's the weather in your neck of the woods" I have gotten some good book recommendations this past year, including a book in the mail from Chris Berry entitled A Short History of Nearly Everything. (Thanks Chris!) Since I don't get much time to read, I've been really lucky to happen upon mostly really good books lately. Here are a few of the ones that I have read that I think are well worth...http://www.jroller.com/cpurdy/entry/worth_reading An SOA Grid .. the news is out- September 21, 2007 It looks like the SOA Grid message is officially in the wild: One of Dave Chappell's points was that the reason people do stateless services (although of course they aren't really stateless) is because that is the way that you are forced to scale applications today. .. Dave's proposal is that Oracle will develop in-memory data grid infrastructure that scales horizontally and only offloads to the database as a transactional store and does this asynchronously, rather than as an active datastore..http://www.jroller.com/cpurdy/entry/an_soa_grid_the_news Almost missed this one ..- September 20, 2007 I saw a press release that PaceMetrics added support for Coherence: PaceMetrics are pleased to announce that PVS Version 3.5 now fully supports Oracle Coherence (OC), formerly Tangosol. This release is currently undergoing final testing at a leading Tier 1 Investment Bank in London, with a view to full rollout in August 2007. My favorite part, though: PVS makes use of significant volumes of pricing and reference data in cache due to the time-critical nature of end-of day or intra-day...http://www.jroller.com/cpurdy/entry/almost_missed_this_one Family Vehicle- September 18, 2007 It's not always the driest way to travel, and it doesn't have a built-in DVD player for the kids, but they seem to like it just the same:http://www.jroller.com/cpurdy/entry/family_vehicle Marion's- September 18, 2007 After the Wall Street conference yesterday, I ended up at Marion's on Bowery listening to some live music. Chris Brown and Kate Fenner were the lead vocals with Tony Scheer on bass. After a couple hours, Kate and her band left and Tony switched to a guitar and played out the night. Pete introduced me to Emily Zuzik and some of his other musician friends. I think I left a bit after midnight, and realized that I hadn't been out to enjoy live music since going to this same conference a year ago,...http://www.jroller.com/cpurdy/entry/marion_s Conference Season- September 16, 2007 Last week I finally made it to JavaZone in Norway. I've been trying to get there for the past several years, but something always ended up scheduled at the same time. The conference was a blast, and Oslo is beautiful this time of year. (Since it's the first time I was in Norway, I can only imagine how cold it gets in the winter. ;-) This week there is the High Performance on Wall Street show that I'm presenting paneling at on Monday, followed by the first annual Data Synapse conference in...http://www.jroller.com/cpurdy/entry/conference_season1 |
